Aliens in the Attic

Picture2.png

Genre: Kids

I was young when I watched Aliens in the Attic for the first time. And based on the title you can tell that a younger child might get scared, because, well, aliens. I have always been a scardy cat when it comes to paranormal things, which is why I am not a fan of horror movies. My parents rented this movie from Netflix back then when you could get a DVD in the mail to rent. They told me that it was going to fun and we should watch it together as a family. I was seven when I first watched it, so keep that in mind when I tell you about it.

The movie is about two brothers, their families, and their mother who rent a summer house for the Fourth of July. During a storm, three little capsules appear out of nowhere and crash into the satellite dish of the house causing the TV to stop working. The parents send their son and their daughter’s boyfriend to go fix it. When they get up there they see the broken dish and four little aliens. One of the aliens shoots the boyfriend in the neck with a device and start controlling his movements and his voice. The aliens start attacking the other boy using the boyfriend as a weapon. The alien's mission was to start an alien attack on Earth and were taking control of some of the adults in the house to do so. We get the funniest moments from the movie when the children find the remote that controls the boyfriend and play with it without knowing what they are doing, and when the aliens and the humans use the controlled humans as weapons against each other. I don’t want to spoil all the fun of the movie so I won’t say anymore.

I really enjoyed this movie since watching it for the first time, it has become one of my favorite movies of all time. I remember being really scared until a funny scene and then I loved it. I like how they took the concept of aliens and make it funny. I also enjoyed the cool gadgets the aliens brought over with them from space and the bond the children formed with one of the aliens.

I recommend this movie to anyone who wants a good laugh. Whenever I am feeling down I watch this movie up and watch it. It always makes a tough day a happy day. It always reminds me of the first time it watched it, back then when aliens were the scariest things imaginable. I hope will want to show my kids this movie once I am older so they too can laugh as much as I do whenever I watch it. My friends seemed to have liked it when I forced them to watch it with me one night.

I went onto the Rotten Tomatoes website (link) to see if others had liked this movie as much as I had. To my dismay, people did not really like this movie. They said it was too aimed at children, which makes me frustrated because it is a children’s movie, and as a child I loved it. I also read other people’s reviews and they said that if they were younger they might have liked it better, which is true, I don’t know if I would have liked as much if I had seen it for the first time at age 17.

It wasn’t like other alien movies where the aliens invade and the whole world fights them, and there is mass chaos. In this movie, the only people who knew the aliens were coming is a group of teenagers. In other movies, the government would have been informed and the white house would have been buzzing and everyone would have been scared for their lives, but in this movie, the kids kept the secret from their parents and they solved the problem all on their own, and it worked out in the end.
