In Time

Background

The first time I ever saw a glimpse of this movie was when I had just gotten home from school and my mom was ironing while watching TV. I saw only the part where there was time on the arm of the actor and that he was running towards a pretty woman when suddenly she died. I was so confused yet intrigued. I wanted to watch more. It wasn’t till a couple of years later that I actually watch the movie in its entirety.

Plot

In time takes place in a society where time is money. Will is a poor man with barely a days worth on time on his arm. In this society you don’t age past your 25th birthday, instead, the clock on your arm starts counting down. The problem is that your clock is the amount of time you have to live, and your bank account. One day a rich man who had befriended Will gives him the gift of 53 years on his clock. Will then decides to ditch his poor hometown for the rich city. He gambles and goes to fancy parties with other rich and much older people (but they don’t look like it). Unfortunately for him, his newfound gift makes him a target, as the people who survey the lands try to make sure poor people can’t become rich. He then has to run away from the people who are trying to take all of his time back from him.

Why I liked it

I like this movie because it really shows the message time is money in its literal way. I like the adventure the main character goes on and the interesting people he meets. I like how people don’t age after a certain age and how there are different cities based on your wealth. It’s very different from real life.

Why I recommend it

I recommend this movie to people who like action and adventure. It is sad at times but it also introduces a new way of life. So if you are bored at home and want to watch a movie with action and Justin Timberlake in it, this movie is for you.

Others reaction

Surprisingly, not many of my peers have seen this movie even if it came out not that long ago in 2011, but one of my teachers did say she loved it too! I looked at the reviews of Rotten Tomatoes to see what others had to say about this movie. There was a mix of good and not so good reviews. Most said that it had a good plot, but they felt like something was missing.

Compared to other movies

It is different from other movies because it gives you another way of looking at a dystopian society. It’s much different that series like the Hunger Games or Divergent because you are fighting for your life in a new way. It’s not the humans who have chosen to live with a clock on their forearm, it’s evolution.
